More power and torque combined with less fuel consumption – this is what every engine designer strives to achieve. The Audi valvelift system (AVS) has brought Audi a great deal closer to this goal.
On the 2.0 TFSI, AVS acts on the exhaust side. By means of specific valve timing, the amount of fresh air in the cylinders can be significantly increased with the turbocharger, particularly in the lower engine speed range. This is because the exhaust gases are expelled faster and flow to the turbocharger is improved. This results in more torque, even more dynamic response and thus a substantial increase in pulling power. The system thus offers the driver appreciably more driving pleasure. In addition, AVS permits longer gear ratios, achieving a considerable reduction in fuel consumption.
